Matt Smith (Man City)
Matt Smith has had some high-profile loans at QPR and Twente, but last season, like Balcombe, he wound up at Doncaster Rovers. He has been called up to Wales’ Euro 2020 squad, but he is one who impressed in League One and could feasibly be at Sunderland next season.
He’s a commanding presence in the middle of the park, clever in possession and good on the ball and could certainly add some youthful spark to a midfield often found wanting.
