Ellery Balcombe (Brentford)
Everywhere the Black Cats turned last season, they seemed to come up against an emergency loan keeper. There is a trend in this division towards borrowing keepers from bigger clubs and keeping the wage bill down.
If that is a route Lee Johnson chooses to go down, then he should look no further than Brentford’s England Under 21 stopper Balcombe. He had a good stint with Doncaster this campaign and could do with a full season under his belt.
