Sunderland have won the race to sign young Liverpool striker Jayden Danns on loan according to reports from Sky Sports News.
The 19-year-old has been a sought-after player by multiple Championship clubs over the past six months, with Plymouth Argyle, Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers all potential suitors.
Black Cats Land Danns
According to Keith Downie of Sky Sports News, Sunderland have won the race for Danns, who has played nine senior games for The Reds, and was involved in their EFL Cup final win last season. The son of former Bolton Wanderers player Neil Danns, the striker is set to head to Wearside today to complete a medical.
Arne Slot’s side had initially been hesitant to let the youngster leave the club this window, only allowing moves for him alongside midfielder James McConnell on deadline day after weighing up the squad. Sunderland have beaten both Blackburn and Hull City to the transfer according to Downie.
Regis Le Bris’ side have spaces available in their attack after the departures of both Aaron Connoly to Millwall and Nazariy Rusyn to Hajduk Split on loan across this window. This will be Danns’ first move away from Liverpool in his career.
Writer’s View
Multiple Championship clubs have been all over Danns across the past six months and it’s somewhat of a shock that Sunderland have come in and beaten clubs with a longstanding known interest in the striker. He will be a great fit in the North East and offers a new kind of profile for Regis Le Bris to use in attack alongside Wilson Isidor. He is a largely unknown quantity with his limited appearances in senior football but those features for Liverpool have all been promising, including that EFL Cup final performance against Chelsea. He could be a big contributor to a side looking to finally return to the Premier League with a highly talented young squad.
