Plymouth Argyle are on the verge of signing Ukrainian centre-back Maksym Taloverov from LASK in a deal worth £1.7m.
The 24-year-old is scheduled to undergo a medical tomorrow, with the move expected to be finalised shortly after. Taloverov has agreed to a three-and-a-half-year contract that will keep him at Home Park until the summer of 2028.
The deal comes as new Argyle boss Miron Muslic seeks to address defensive vulnerabilities, highlighted by a 5-0 defeat to Burnley. After failing to secure Sparta Rotterdam’s Mike Eerdhuijzen, the Championship side quickly shifted their focus to Taloverov as an alternative.

What Taloverov Brings to Plymouth
Standing at 6ft 5, Taloverov has the physical presence needed to compete in the Championship. The defender has earned seven caps for Ukraine, showcasing his reputation as a rising talent in his homeland. He also boasts experience in top-flight football, having played for Slavia Prague in the Czech Republic and LASK in Austria. Additionally, his participation in the Europa Conference League demonstrates exposure to competitive European fixtures.
Although transitioning to a new league and country mid-season can be challenging, Plymouth will hope Taloverov can quickly adapt and make an impact. With decent experience at just 24 years old, he has room to grow under Muslic’s guidance, potentially becoming a key figure in Argyle’s push for survival.

Plymouth’s Relegation Battle
The addition of Taloverov is a crucial move for Plymouth, who sit at the bottom of the Championship table with just 22 points from 29 games. Their defensive struggles are evident, with a goal difference of -35. However, a spirited stoppage-time equaliser at Sunderland in their last outing has given the team hope and highlighted their determination to fight for manager Muslic.
Argyle’s upcoming home clash against West Brom will be a vital opportunity to build momentum and climb out of the relegation zone. With Taloverov potentially in the squad, Plymouth will look to tighten their defence and secure much-needed points.
Writer’s View
Maksym Taloverov’s arrival at Plymouth Argyle could be a game-changer in their fight against relegation. His height, physicality, and international experience make him a promising addition to a defence that has struggled all season. While patience will be required as he adapts to the Championship, the timing of this signing suggests Plymouth are serious about pulling off a survival bid. With a committed squad and key reinforcements like Taloverov, Argyle’s fortunes may yet turn around.
