It’s the battle of sixth vs third in the Championship as Millwall welcome Ipswich Town to The Den on Boxing Day.
Our Three Predictions For Millwall vs Ipswich Town
- First Prediction: Ipswich Town To Win – 21/20
- Second Prediction: Both Teams To Score – 17/20
- Third Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals – 11/10
First Prediction For Millwall vs Ipswich Town – Ipswich Town To Win – 21/20
Millwall have found themselves in an unlikely battle for promotion this season. A 3-2 win over Southampton at the end of November saw them move up to third, whilst 4 points from their next 2 outings saw them maintain their position.
The Lions have faltered somewhat in the lead up to Christmas though. A 3-1 home defeat to Hull City was a bitter disappointment but they were unable to bounce back last weekend after going down 2-0 to Blackburn Rovers.
Alex Neil’s team have slipped to sixth as a result and have been replaced in third by Ipswich. The Tractor Boys have quietly risen up the table in recent weeks, with Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday moving them to within 5 points of second placed Middlesbrough.
Despite that, Kieran McKenna’s side haven’t won in their last 3 trips away from Portman Road. However, it does feel as if the Suffolk-based side are on the verge of hitting their stride.
Second Prediction For Millwall vs Ipswich Town – Both Teams To Score – 17/20
Only Stoke City and Sheffield United have been involved in fewer games where both teams have scored than Millwall this season, with 45% of their fixtures achieving this feat. However, this has increased in recent weeks, with the Lions scoring and conceding in 3 of their last 5.
Meanwhile, Ipswich have hit this market in 64% of their games thus far, although this increases to 80% when just factoring in their away outings. The 2-0 win at Hull last month is their only fixture outside of Portman Road that has fallen short here since August.
Third Prediction For Millwall vs Ipswich Town – Over 2.5 Goals – 11/10
Millwall once again rank fairly low in this market, with 45% of their games producing 3 or more goals. However, their last 2 games at The Den have been entertaining affairs, starting with the 3-2 win over Southampton before the 3-1 loss against Hull.
Ipswich have performed slightly better here. 55% of their outings have hit this marker, which includes 3 of their last 4.
The Tractor Boys have also been involved in some high scoring encounters on the road over the past couple of months. This includes 4-1 wins at Queens Park Rangers and Swansea City, whilst more recently they have lost 2-1 and 3-1 at Oxford United and Leicester City respectively.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:
Millwall have suffered a dip in form in recent weeks and head into this game on a 3-game winless run. This followed 3 successive wins, where the Lions emerged victorious against Sheffield Wednesday (1-0), Southampton (3-2) and Bristol City (1-0).
A 1-1 draw at Derby County halted their progress, but the past couple of fixtures have seen them slip to sixth in the table. A 3-1 home loss against fellow play-off contenders Hull City was a bitter disappointment, which was followed by a 2-0 defeat at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
Ipswich hit form at the end of October with a 6-game unbeaten streak. A shock 2-1 reverse at Oxford United stopped them in their tracks, although they have won 3 of their last 4 to move up to third.
The most impressive of those was a 3-0 victory over league leaders Coventry City. This has been accompanied by triumphs over Stoke City (1-0) and Sheffield Wednesday (3-1), although they did lose 3-1 to Leicester City in their last away game.
Ipswich won both games between the pair during the 2023/24 campaign, which included a 4-0 victory at The Den on route to promotion to the Premier League. Prior to that, Millwall also did the double during the 2018/19 season when the Tractor Boys suffered relegation to League One.
Overall, there isn’t much to separate to 2 teams over the years. The Suffolk-based side edge the head-to-head record with 23 wins to the Lions’ 21. The duo have played out 14 draws, the last of which came in 2018.
