Louie Barry Reveals Reasons For Joining Hull City

New Hull City signing Louie Barry has revealed that a conversation with head coach Ruben Selles was the key reason for choosing the Tigers after joining on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old has made a real name for himself in the EFL over the past couple of years. He helped Stockport County clinch the League Two title last season before rejoining on another temporary deal last summer. However, his time at Edgeley Park was cut short by parent club Aston Villa after the winger bagged an incredible 15 goals in 23 appearances.

The decision was made by the Premier League outfit in order for the winger to test himself at a higher level, leading to a scramble for his signature this month. The likes of Leeds United, Sunderland, Derby County, West Bromwich Albion and Celtic were all thought to be keen before Hull emerged as the frontrunners earlier this week.

Barry Delighted To Complete Move

The Tigers have found themselves embroiled in a relegation scrap this season. The appointment of Ruben Selles from Reading in December has sparked a revival though, culminating in a stunning 3-0 win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane last week.

Speaking to official club media, Barry has revealed that a chat with the head coach coupled with their performance against the Blades was what convinced him to head to the MKM Stadium:

“I’m really excited. I had a good start to the season and, hopefully, I can end it really well. I’ve got a lot of goals in my mind that I want to achieve here.

“I spoke to the gaffer and he said all the right things. I watched the Sheffield United game and that was a big turning point for me because everything the gaffer said was spot on and came to fruition.

“I just want to get out there now. I haven’t played for about a month and I’m chomping at the bit to get out and hopefully score a few goals.

“I started the season off by scoring goals and creating chances, and I want to end it the same way. I’m hungry, probably hungrier than ever, and I’ve got that point to prove in the Championship.

“I’ve never played in the Championship, so it’s my time to go out there and show people what I can do.”

This is a huge coup for Hull City and one that could turn out to be one of the standout signings of the winter transfer window. Although Barry has never played in the Championship, he is a player that is expected to rise to the very top of the game. The fact that promotion contenders such as Leeds and Sunderland were chasing his signature speaks volumes, and for Hull to win that battle is a testament to the job Ruben Selles is doing since arriving last month.
