Luton Town have submitted a £1.3m bid for Exeter City forward Millenic Alli as they look to bolster their attacking options before the close of the January transfer window.
The Hatters are in desperate need of firepower, having struggled for goals in the Championship this season. Their pursuit of Wycombe Wanderers striker Richard Kone hit a dead end after a £6m offer was rejected, prompting them to turn their attention to Alli.
A Versatile Forward for Luton
Alli has emerged as a sought-after talent following his standout performances for Exeter City last season, which attracted interest from Bristol City, Cardiff City, and Blackburn Rovers.
The 24-year-old is known for his ability to play across the front line. While he was primarily deployed as a left-winger last season, Exeter have utilised him as their main striker this term.
Despite his versatility, Alli’s goal record has not been prolific. He has scored nine league goals in 25 appearances this season, adding to the four goals he netted in the previous campaign. However, his ability to adapt to different roles in attack makes him an appealing prospect for Luton.
Alli remains under contract with Exeter until 2026 after signing a two-and-a-half-year deal in January 2024, meaning the Grecians are under no pressure to sell unless their valuation is met.
A Response to Luton’s Goal Scoring Woes
Luton’s struggles in front of goal are well-documented, with Carlton Morris leading the club’s scoring charts this season with just seven goals. The Hatters have the fourth-lowest goal tally in the Championship, highlighting the urgent need for reinforcements in attack.
Their initial priority appeared to be Kone, who has been in prolific form for Wycombe this season, scoring 16 goals. However, after failing to meet Wycombe’s demands, Luton have opted for a more affordable alternative in Alli.
