Blackburn Rovers have made a move in their ambition to sign a striker this window, lodging a bid for Brandon Thomas-Asante.
John Eustace has been open about his desire to bring in a new forward option in January in a press conference. Rovers only signed one new striker in the summer window, bringing in Makhtar Gueye from RWD Molenbeek.
Thomas-Asante Bid Made
According to report from Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports News, Blackburn have moved to sign Coventry City‘s Brandon Thomas-Asante, submitting a £1.75 million bid to Frank Lampard’s side. This latest move comes after their bid to resign Ben Brereton-Diaz on loan looked to have failed, with the Chilean wanting to go to Sheffield United.
Thomas-Asante joined The Sky Blues in the summer from West Bromwich Albion, but has not been the most consistent striker for them, with three goals across 29 appearances. He has been largely left out of the first-team picture in the West Midlands, making his first start in two months during their loss to Norwich City.
Other Candidates Touted
Blackburn are known to be coveting a striker with John Eustace also commenting on links to Patrick Bamford, with his status in the Leeds United squad somewhat diminished this season with injuries plaguing him across the past few yeats. Daniel Farke has reaffirmed his support of the former Middlesbrough forward and said he will have a key role to play as they try and achieve promotion back to the Premier League.
Writer’s View
Blackburn do need offensive reinforcements and ideally a new striker to lead the line following the loss of both Sammie Szmodics and Sam Gallagher over the summer. Whilst Brandon Thomas-Asante can be dynamic, he has not been a very prolific goalscorer and a better player when out wide on the right wing. A signing of the Ghanaian should be complimented by a second, more high profile and dedicated number nine to support their play-off bid.
