Bolton Wanderers Boss Confirms Imminent Exit

Bolton Wanderers manager Ian Evatt has confirmed that an offer for striker Dion Charles has been accepted from Huddersfield Town.

The 29-year-old joined the Trotters from Accrington Stanley in January 2022. He has been a huge hit in that time, hitting 20+ goals in each of the last two seasons.

Despite his popularity at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, he has fallen down the pecking order, starting just one of Bolton’s last six League One fixtures. This had led to speculation that his time in the North West was set to come to an end. This was enhanced further last night when he was left out of the squad completely in the EFL Trophy win over Lincoln City.

Evatt Admits Bid Has Been Accepted

Following the clash at the LNER Stadium, Evatt was asked about the situation surrounding Charles’ future. Speaking to BBC Radio Manchesterthe 43-year-old revealed a bid had been received from league rivals Huddersfield:

“We’ve had an offer for Dion that we’ve deemed acceptable. So that’s as much as I can tell you at the moment.

“Yes, it’s from Huddersfield. We’ve all had input into it. That’s what we do at this football club, we do things together.

“We stick together. There’s a lot of decision-makers in that and Dion Charles is one of them as well, we mustn’t forget that as well. We’ve come together and we’ve decided it as an acceptable offer for us and that’s all we really need to say on it.”

Should Charles join Huddersfield, he would be the Terriers second significant attacking signing of the transfer window following the arrival of Joe Taylor from Luton Town earlier this week.

Writer’s View

Ian Evatt is already under huge pressure from Bolton supporters. News that one of the most popular players and the club’s top scorer in each of the last two seasons is about to join a team with similar ambitions will not go down well. Whilst it is unclear what fee will be received for Charles, it will need to be reinvested wisely. If it isn’t, the Toughsheet Community Stadium may not be the nicest place to be in the coming weeks. With two home games on the horizon, expect fans to make their thoughts clear.
