Southend United coach Darren Currie has confirmed that the club remains open to the idea of goalkeeper Zach Jeacock returning to Roots Hall.
Jeacock, who recently completed a loan spell with the Shrimpers, has returned to his parent club Lincoln City and featured in their FA Cup match against Birmingham City over the weekend.
Jeacock’s Departure
Despite Jeacock’s departure, Currie emphasised that the club is keen on exploring opportunities to bring the 22-year-old back, although the decision ultimately rests with Lincoln City.
“I don’t think it’s a shut door, but we’re governed by Lincoln because he’s obviously their player,” said Currie. “They’re in charge of what he does, but the door will always be open because he did well for us and we like him. If there’s a chance he can come back then it’s something we’re going to look at.”
During his time with Southend, Jeacock made a positive impression, bolstering the team’s defensive efforts and earning praise for his performances. However, any potential return to the Shrimpers depends on Lincoln’s willingness to sanction another loan or transfer deal.
Back at Lincoln City
Jeacock returned to the Imps after an injury to keeper George Wickens. With Jamie Pardington the only other stopper on the Imps books, they recalled the former Birmingham City man to play in the FA Cup against his former club.
He had a decent game, making one first-half stop that earned him plaudits and seemingly being at ease with distribution and handling. However, last night against Bolton Wanderers in the Vertu Trophy, he was at fault for the only goal of the game, rushing out and then getting caught in no man’s land by Aaron Collins.
Zach Jeacock
Jeacock began his career with Birmingham City, joining their youth system in 2009. He transitioned from an outfield player to a goalkeeper at age 14. Jeacock gained experience through loan spells at clubs including Stourport Swifts, Gloucester City, and Salford City. In July 2024, he signed a two-year contract with Lincoln City. Seeking regular first-team action, Jeacock joined Southend United on loan in October 2024, where he made a couple of appearances before being recalled in the New Year.
Writer’s View
Southend fans will be hoping the situation unfolds in their favour as the team seeks to strengthen its squad in the coming weeks. Lincoln City fans might not be sad to see Jeacock out on loan, as it means their own keeper situation will also have been resolved. He has a decent future ahead of him at the LNER Stadium, but he undoubtedly needs games.
