Swansea City Consider Swap Deal In Defender Pursuit

Swansea City could opt to make a swap deal with Wycombe Wanderers to sign key target Joe Low.

The Chairboys’ centre-back has been a key part of their surprise title push this season, but Luke Williams’ side have targetted him as a priority signing in this window, already submitting two bids that have been rejected.

Exchange Deal Considered

According to Wales Online, Swansea City chairman Andy Coleman is considering a swap deal between them and Wycombe to secure Low and move the negotiations further along.

The Jacks are in a battle with fellow Championship sides Preston North End and Plymouth Arygle for the 22-year-old Welsh international, but it is believed that City are in the lead to reach an agreement. Low is reportedly also interested in a move up to the second-tier despite Wanderers being adamant they will not sell the defender.

Centre-back has been a high priority for Swansea in this transfer window with injury concerns to key players Ben Cabango and Harry Darling. The latter out of contract at the end of this season and the talks about an extension seem to have hit an impasse.

Wycombe are now in a period of transition after the departure of manager Matt Bloomfield to Luton Town. The club are in second place in League One.

Writer’s View

The deal to sign Joe Low feels to now be in a very precarious place and Swansea City considering a swap move might be a last chance to tempt Wycombe into making a deal. With Low’s desires to play in the Championship becoming clear, it feels that Wanderers will lose him within the next six months but they want to keep him to try and assist their surprise promotion push. With Swansea having no centre-backs available for their derby match with Cardiff City this weekend, a big effort is now needed to convince the League One club to sell Low.
