Two League One sides have been rumoured to be pursuing a move for Cardiff City‘s out-of-action striker Kion Etete.
The 23-year-old is yet to feature for The Bluebirds this season due to injury issues, with his last feature coming in March 2024 against Bristol City.
Third Tier Sides Lurk
According to reports from Darren Witcoop, both Huddersfield Town and Charlton Athletic are ‘keen’ on signing Etete in the transfer window.
He is under contract in South Wales until the end of the season, having made 58 appearances and scoring eight goals since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in 2022.
Should a move materialise, it would mark Etete’s first time in League One since being on loan at Cheltenham Town, having also played in League Two for both Northampton Town and Notts County.
For Huddersfield, they would be adding to a well-stocked attacking department but have largely struggled with goals. Only Callum Marshall and Josh Koroma have scored two or more goals in the league this season.
The Addicks meanwhile have plenty of contributors such as Danny Hylton, Miles Leaburn and Tyreece Campbell all filling the gap left by the loss of Alfie May to Birmingham City over the summer. They have only scored 27 times in the third tier this season, nine goals fewer than they had at this stage in the previous campaign.
Writer’s View
With Kion Etete’s injury worries, this does feel like a risky move for Huddersfield Town and Charlton Athletic to make. He has been very unfortunate with the hamstring issues that has kept him out of contributing to Cardiff at a time they could really use him. He should be returning to full fitness soon and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, City may make the decision to move him on and look to bring in other striking options to help their in their relegation battle.
