Chesterfield are reportedly targeting Burnley striker Michael Mellon to ease their ongoing injury crisis in the forward department.
The 21-year-old, currently on loan at Stockport County, has struggled for game time this season, prompting speculation that his loan could be cut short to facilitate a move to the Spireites.
Mellon’s Career So Far
Michael Mellon, the son of Oldham Athletic manager Micky Mellon, began his footballing journey in Manchester United’s academy before joining Burnley. A Scotland youth international, Mellon has shown significant promise, particularly during a prolific loan spell at Morecambe in the first half of last season, where he scored 15 goals in 27 games.
Despite this success, a subsequent loan move to Dundee and his current stint at Stockport County have yielded limited opportunities. Mellon has made just four appearances for Stockport this season, partly due to injury and the strong form of his teammates in League One.
“He’s a finisher and scorer of all types of goals, and given the service, we think he’ll have a big impact on League One this season,” said Stockport boss Dave Challinor in the summer.

Will Grigg is expected to be out for more than two months, and Paddy Madden is still two weeks away from returning to training. Kane Drummond remains their primary attacking threat, but additional reinforcements are essential to maintain their competitiveness.
