Bristol City Make Striker Decision

Bristol City head coach Liam Manning has confirmed that striker Harry Cornick is free to leave the club in January.

The 29-year-old joined the club for an undisclosed fee in January 2023 after impressing at Luton Town. However, the move hasn’t quite worked out and he has failed to make a single Championship appearance this season.

Cornick scored just twice last season in 39 league outings and despite being named in the Robins’ matchday squad in all-but-five of their 22 games this season. His only appearance has come in the Carabao Cup, in a 1-0 defeat against Coventry City in August.

Manning Confirms Cornick Could Leave In January

Speculation was rife over Cornick’s future at the weekend when he was left out of the squad to face West Bromwich Albion. Speaking to Bristol Post, Manning has confirmed that he has spoken with the attacker and will allow him to explore other options next month:

“I’ve had a chat with Corns and it’s tough because he’s one a top person and two a top professional. I know he would have been frustrated at not getting minutes but we had that chat in the summer that, that might be the case. I can’t commend him enough for how he’s conducted himself.

“With January coming up, I’m sure he’ll want to explore options as we’ll allow him to. We’ve had those chats with Corns but as I said, it’s always harder when you’ve got someone that’s such a good person and a pro. We’ll have to see how that turns out.”

What Next For Cornick?

A move to League One looks to be on the cards for the former Leyton Orient loanee. According to Darren Witcoop, interest from the third tier is already heating up, with Wrexham and Charlton Athletic thought to be keen.

Writer’s View

It’s been a tough few months for Harry Cornick. He will no doubt be frustrated from having to watch from the substitutes bench over the course of the past few months, but Manning’s glowing reference of the player should see him have no problems when it comes to finding a new club. His contract doesn’t expire until 2026, meaning a loan move to League One could be likely. Wrexham could be the ideal club to get his career back on track, where he could play a role in helping the Welsh outfit secure a third successive promotion.
