Huddersfield Town strengthened their grip on a top-six position in League One after putting a hapless Cambridge United to the sword.
Across a 25-minute spell, The Terriers put three past Garry Monk’s side to comfortably put the game to bed and set them on the path to an 11th straight game without a loss in the third tier. Man of the match Callum Marshall then sealed the deal with 20 minutes to go and put the gap to seventh-placed Bolton Wanderers at eight points.
In a match where The U’s had some strong spells, it was the more calm and measured Town that put themselves on the front foot 12 minutes into the game, with David Kasumu slotting home a save parried by Vicente Reyes from a Tom Lees shot.
Young centre-back Brodie Spencer was next to join in on the action, heading home from a Callum Marshall cross to get his second goal in as many games. The Northern Irishman added a goal to that assist just six minutes later leaving United fully in the lurch at The Abbey Stadium.
It was a game best exemplified by Town’s ruthlessness with their shots, putting 10 of 17 on target and hitting the woodwork once, compared to the just three shots on target Cambridge had.
Marshall rounded out the affair in the second half and allowed Michael Duff to rest key players such as Kasumu and Josh Koroma ahead of their crunch Boxing Day clash against Stockport County.
The loss puts Cambridge even further on the backfoot in their relegation battle and could end the weekend seven points adrift of Bristol Rovers and Northampton Town.

Huddersfield Town are building up a great run right now and with a good result coming in the form of the draw between Wycombe Wanderers and Bolton Wanderers, the chance of an automatic promotion spot is slowly increasing. Wrexham and Birmingham City are looking almost imperious though so it may not be on the cards. These results though will be positive to draw to should they have to go through the playoffs for a Championship return.
