Wycombe Wanderers Star Sets Ambitious Objective

Wycombe Wanderers are high-flying in League One this season and currently sit at the summit of the table. Undoubtedly this has spurred on certain players to dream big.

One individual who has set their ambitions high, following an electrifying start to the campaign, is Fred Onyedinma. The returning Chairboys winger has featured in 13 league games as well as netted six goals to contribute to the chart-topping 43 that his side have dished out.

A Premier League Dream

Despite already achieving eight top-flight appearances last season with Luton Town, the 28-year-old has now turned his attention to creating the same history with Wycombe. Ipswich Town’s journey to the Premier League will have inspired plenty of League One clubs and players to aim to replicate this feat; Onyedinma seems to be one of those.

130 appearances with the Chairboys has given the winger a perfect reason to dream of guiding Wycombe to the top of the English football pyramid. Here‘s what Onyedinma had to say, verbatim, on this aim:

“The Premier League would be the dream, but it’s my job to do my bit for the team as we want to keep this run going. I am also so delighted to be back.

“It’s a new group but they have taken to me well, and I know what the culture of Wycombe is like so I have slotted in right well.”

Writer’s View

It is such a great achievement to reach the Premier League considering the amount of money being thrown about by the top teams in England. Ipswich and Luton’s stories are both so influential for the equally smaller outfits like Wycombe. Onyedinma may be reaching very high while still in the third division, but it is more than possible.

Wycombe are a competitive side who have already had recent stints in the Championship so promotion to the second tier could be on the cards if they continue this impressive form. Birmingham City will likely pull together and flex their multi-million pound squad as table-toppers come the end of the season, but the Chairboys might throw a spanner in the works to finish in either of the top two positions and compete with the Blues.
