Matt Bloomfield looks set to become the new boss of Luton Town after reports emerged a deal was close.
The Hatters were looking to find a successor to Rob Edwards after he stepped away from the club following a poor opening half to the season.
Bloomfield Deal Edges Closer
According to a report from Football League World, Luton are moving towards appointing Matt Bloomfield to become their new manager, with the 40-year-old not present for Wycombe Wanderers‘ training session today. He had previously commented on the links to Town, saying that he was “extremely flattered” to be considered a suitable candidate.
It had been previously reported that should Luton make an approach for the former Colchester United boss, The Chairboys would not stand in their way. Bloomfield has a £100,000 release clause in his contract at Adams Park.
Wanderers have become a surprise promotion and title contender in League One this season, with the club currently second, two points behind heavy favourites Birmingham City, who have two games in hand on the rest of the chasing pack.
Luton meanwhile find themselves in 20th place and battling with relegation this season after dropping out of the Premier League, and are on a five-game losing run across all competitions after being eliminated from the FA Cup by Nottingham Forest this weekend.

Writer’s View
Luton have been a team with ambition over the past few seasons and even with their relegation fears have continued with their philosophy by moving to appoint one of the EFL’s most exciting managers in Matt Bloomfield. He has gone toe-to-toe with high-spending Birmingham City and Wrexham with his Wycombe side and with the funding being put into Luton by their owners, it is an exciting time for him to come on board.
Unfortunately, it does put Wycombe in a very tricky spot. This has the potential to derail their season and will now need to find someone else to lead this squad through the rest of the season. Rob Edwards could ironically be a good choice but with his credentials with Luton may be too ambitious of a move. Either way, with the foundations Bloomfield has laid in Buckinghamshire, The Chairboys are still in a very good position to carry out their own goals.
