Wycombe Wanderers have rejected two bids for centre-back Joe Low, but are anticipating further offers from Championship sides.
Matt Bloomfield’s side have been standouts in League One and dumped Portsmouth out of the FA Cup Third Round to set up a tie with either Preston North End or Charlton Athletic in the next phase. They are currently two points behind third tier leaders Birmingham City, and are level with Wrexham having played the same number of games.
Offers Rejected From Swansea City
According to Football Insider, Wycombe have already rejected two six-figure offers believed to be in the region of £500,000 to £600,000 from Swansea City for Low. It is believed that the 22-year-old is open to a move up to the second tier and to test himself in the Championship.
However, The Jacks are not the only side pursuing the former Bristol City man, with Plymouth Argyle and Preston also linked with the Welsh international. City are preparing a third bid for Low to convince the Cardiff-born player to return to South Wales.
Argyle have already reinforced their defensive options in this window amidst their relegation fears, signing Polish left-back Tymoteusz Puchacz from Holstein Kiel, beating Hull City to the loan deal for the 25-year-old.
Paul Heckingbottom’s Preston had been linked to Crystal Palace’s Jeffrey Schlupp, but those rumours were since debunked. They also signed Plymouth’s Lewis Gibson on a three-and-a-half-year deal last week.
Writer’s View
Joe Low is a key player in a Wycombe Wanderers side that have been surprise title contenders in League One and it would be a big blow to their promotion ambitions. These two rejected bids show how much the Adams Park hierarchy rates their defender but it may become too much money to turn down for the Chairboys. With Peterborough United‘s backline woes after last season’s sales, it is hard to replace defenders at short notice and Wycombe are rightly proceeding with caution over this deal.
