Elias Sorensen’s stint at Portsmouth has reportedly come to an end after John Mousinho’s side agreed to sell the forward.
The Danish striker was bought in the summer from Esbjerg fB to plug the hole left by Colby Bishop’s unexpected absence due to heart surgery. He only managed to start four games in the Championship for Pompey and scored just once in the season opener against Leeds United.
Norwegian Side Make Move
According to Danish football outlet Tipsbladet, Norwegian side Valerenga have agreed to purchase Sorensen from Portsmouth, paying a fee in the region of €300,000 (£251,000), the same amount Pompey paid Esbjerg in the summer. BBC Radio Solent has since revealed that Sorensen has flown to Norway to complete the transfer.
He was their leading talisman as they achieved promotion to the Danish top flight and prompted interest from across Europe, but it was ultimately Portsmouth that won the battle for the 25-year-old. Whilst he was expected to be a regular in the opening half of the campaign, Mousinho instead opted to put more of his faith in Australian Kusini Yengi before Bishop made his return sooner than expected in November against Preston North End.
The number nine has since gone on to reclaim his regular place in the squad, scoring three times since making his return. They play League One standouts Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup third round tomorrow night.
Writer’s View
The move to bring Elias Sorensen to Portsmouth seems to have been a dud but the club seems to have recouped their losses just six months on from signing the Dane. Arguably he was not given enough time since that promising performance against Leeds United and quickly found himself behind in the pecking order. Nevertheless, it seems that John Mousinho has opted to move him on and it would be safe to assume another forward will come to the club this window, with links to Brisbane Roar striker Thomas Waddingham, a target of fellow Championship club Sheffield Wednesday.
