League Two clubs Bradford City and Swindon Town are interested in a loan move for Norwich City‘s Jonathan Tomkinson according to a report.
The American defender has failed to register a senior appearance for The Canaries in two seasons and has spent most of this season playing in the academy’s Premier League 2 campaign. A report from The Athletic’s Larry Henry Jr. has linked Bradford and Swindon to a move for the centre-back in this window, with the mind for a loan move that could materialise into a free transfer at the end of the season.
Bantams Return On The Cards
Bradford City is a very familiar place to the 22-year-old as he spent the 2023/24 season at Valley Parade, making 28 appearances during his time in Claret and Amber. He was somewhat of a fan favourite in Yorkshire, but Graham Alexander’s side did not choose to rekindle any interest for the player over the summer.
City are in the market for reinforcements across the pitch this season, and have lost Cheick Diabate after Exeter City exercised a recall clause in his deal. With former Carlisle United captain Paul Huntington’s short-term contract expiring this month, City will have four senior centre-backs at their disposal whilst playing a back three formation.
Robins Swoop In
Ian Holloway’s team are in need of some defensive additions, with the club recalling 20-year-old Billy Kirkman from his loan at Weston-Super-Mare in December to play whilst Harrison Minturn and Grant Hall are absent. Town have already done business with Norwich this season, with goalkeeper Daniel Barden on a season-long loan from Carrow Road.
Writer’s View
Jonathan Tomkinson will likely be leaving Norwich over the summer and it seems League Two will be his future destination. Bradford City will likely be his best option as they push for the playoffs and he can return to an environment he is familiar with and well-liked by the fanbase. Swindon would be an interesting prospect but he would join a relegation scrap, a position he has not really been in before. Due to that previous connection, a move to Valley Parade should be his first choice.
