Huddersfield Town Edging Closer To Key Signing

Huddersfield Town are edging closer to the signing of striker Joe Taylor after agreeing a deal with Luton Town, according to Football Insider.

The 22-year-old looks set to depart Kenilworth Road this month after failing to nail down a starting position. After successful loan spells at Colchester United and Lincoln City last season, the attacker had made it clear that he wanted to try his arm at the Championship.

It appeared as if he would get his chance with the Hatters following their relegation from the Premier League. However, it was clear that he was not rated by manager Rob Edwards and he has made just 13 substitute appearances totalling 145 minutes.

Although it was announced that Edwards is to leave Luton earlier today, it seems Taylor will be the next to follow him out of the door.

Huddersfield To Finally Land Their Man?

Like Luton, the Terriers were also relegated last season, slipping into League One for the first time since 2012. They are currently on a 15-game unbeaten run which has helped them recover from a slow start. As a result, they now fourth in the table, four points behind the automatic promotion places having played a game less.

Michael Duff was desperate to bring Taylor to the John Smith’s Stadium during the summer transfer window. It was thought that a loan deal between the two teams was agreed shortly before Deadline Day, but it fell through.

There had been constant speculation that they would return this month, especially with the striker’s previous club Lincoln revealing last month that they would not be pursuing a deal. The report claims that an agreement has been reached with Luton to bring him to Yorkshire, although terms still need to be agreed with the player.

This could be a huge signing for Huddersfield and could be the one that gets them over the line in the race for promotion. Taylor proved last season that he is a talent at the top end of the League One spectrum, bagging 10 goals and three assists in 19 appearances for Lincoln. Imps fans have been desperate to see the ex-Peterborough United man return to aid their ailing attack, but it appears to be Huddersfield that have won the race. An absolutely superb acquisition for the Terriers.
