Huddersfield Town Receive Striker Boost

Huddersfield Town have received a boost in their pursuit of striker Joe Taylor after Lincoln City revealed they have dropped out of the race.

The 22-year-old is widely expected to be on the move in January after playing just 137 minutes of football with Luton Town this season. He enjoyed an excellent loan spell with Lincoln during the second half of last season, scoring 10 goals in 19 appearances.

Taylor expressed his desire to try his luck in the Championship following the temporary move, and it looked like he may get his wish following parent club Luton’s relegation from the Premier League. However, it became apparent very early into the campaign that he would have to make do with a fringe role and he was linked with another move away during the final stages of the summer transfer window.

Huddersfield were one of the teams heavily linked with the attacker. It is thought that a loan deal was agreed but the transfer fell through. They have been widely tipped to revisit the situation in January though.

Lincoln Director Of Football Reveals Stance

Lincoln are another team who have been reported to be interested in bringing the former Peterborough United man back to the LNER Stadium. Those reports look wide of the mark though. Speaking to BBC Radio Lincolnshire, Imps director of football Jez George has stated that the East Midlands-based outfit do not have the financial clout to explore the option:

“I think Joe has moved beyond us unless someone has three, four or five million pounds they want to drop into Lincoln City’s bank account in the next couple of days.

“The truth is that ship has sailed – that is the reality. Luton are looking now at potentially maybe a permanent (move), and that would be a million miles out of our sphere in terms of what we could do in terms of transfer fee and wages.”

Writer’s View

Joe Taylor is an excellent striker and one that will be a real asset to any team competing at the top of League One. He hasn’t had a fair crack of the whip at Luton this season and a January transfer looks increasingly likely. Huddersfield are a team that will be hoping to be back in the Championship next season, which makes this transfer more appealing to the attacker. Taylor could return to Sincil Bank, but it is likely to be when Huddersfield visit the city in April.
