Bradford City could sign their third midfielder of the January transfer window after reports linked them to Tommy Leigh.
The former Accrington Stanley man was bought by MK Dons during the summer transfer window but with a change of manager from Mike Williamson to Scott Lindsay, the 22-year-old has been on the sidelines, making his last matchday squad on December 3rd against Chesterfield.
Bantams Land Leigh
According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Bradford have sealed the deal and agreed a fee with Milton Keynes to secure Tommy Leigh’s services. He would become the third midfielder to arrive at Valley Parade in this window, with Birmingham City loanee Brandon Khela and Gillingham‘s George Lapslie moving to West Yorkshire.
A few names have already left in this window, with former Sunderland man Corry Evans leaving after his deal expired and also losing defender Cheick Diabate after Exeter City recalled him from his loan.
Leigh only made 17 appearances for MK Dons since joining, scoring once in a 5-1 win over Harrogate Town in October. He has League One experience with Accrington Stanley, who he played for for three seasons and 120 matches.
Writer’s View
It would be a brilliant signing to make for Bradford City and a good move for Leigh considering his game time troubles at MK Dons. His flexibility will come in handy, especially his capability as a striker following the news that Andy Cook will be out for the season. This move does bring into question the future of Jamie Walker at Valley Parade though, with Leigh set to become the second attacking midfielder to arrive in this window and youngster Bobby Pointon being the hometown hero for The Bantams. His contract expires at the end of the season so Graham Alexander’s men may opt to cash out now and reinvest those funds elsewhere in the squad.
