Middlesbrough Set Sights On League One Standout

Middlesbrough have joined fellow Championship club Cardiff City in the race to acquire Peterborough United‘s Ricky-Jade Jones

The 22-year-old has been a bright spot in what has largely been a bleak season for Posh, with six goals and three assists in 21 starts in League One. He came through the academy in Cambridgeshire, making 176 appearances total since making his first-team debut in 2019.

Boro Enters Battle

According to Express Sport, Middlesbrough are interested in signing the striker amid the rumours surrounding the future of current forward Emmanuel Latte Lath. GiveMeSport have reported that Leeds United are still weighing up a bid for the Ivorian international, with Premier League sides Ipswich Town and Leicester City also in the race for the 26-year-old.

Cardiff City are also in the mix for Jones, with Omer Riza admitting that The Bluebirds were in talks with Peterborough for their striker. Callum Robinson is currently leading the line for the Welsh side, scoring a third of their total goals in the second tier this season.

With Isaiah Jones also linked with a move away from the Riverside Stadium, Michael Carrick’s side have been exploring the market for new options. Louie Barry was briefly linked with a loan move following his recall from Stockport County, whilst it is expected that Sam Silvera will be brought back to the North East following a tough stint at Portsmouth.

Writer’s View

Peterborough are in a very tough spot right now and with Kwame Poku out for a while, it feels like a major risk considering their position to let go of Ricky-Jade Jones in this window. However, for Middlesbrough, it is an enticing prospect for them to take on and could secure him in the summer when his contract expires and pay the compensation fee then. They should try and retain Emmanuel Latte Lath however as he has proven himself to be their standout scorer and losing him will put a big dent in their promotion shot this season.
