Wycombe Wanderers search for their first win of the season as they welcome an in-form Mansfield Town to Adams Park.
Our Three Predictions For Wycombe Wanderers vs Mansfield Town
- Prediction 1 – Will Evans To Score – 23/10
- Prediction 2 – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 87/100
- Prediction 3 – Mansfield Town To Win – 23/10
First Prediction For Wycombe Wanderers vs Mansfield Town – Will Evans To Score – 23/10
The Stags’ key striker avoided a call-up to the Wales National Team this window, meaning he will be fit and ready to play Wycombe this weekend. The 28-year-old is the joint top scorer for the side so far this season, alongside Jamie McDonnell, and has been in fairly strong form to start the season with three goals in the opening eight matches. With Wycombe conceding an average of 1.5 goals per game, the opportunities should be there for Mansfield and Evans as the striker, with only Leyton Orient and bottom side Peterborough United conceding more than the Chairboys so far. While perhaps Mike Dodds’ side have been unlucky to concede 9 goals from an xG of 6.3, Town will have chances to punish their opponents and Evans should be the focal point of those opportunities.
Second Prediction For Wycombe Wanderers vs Mansfield Town – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 87/100
It has been a real struggle for Wycombe Wanderers this season and the Chairboys are one of a handful of teams to have fewer goals than games played so far this season. While their defence has been strong but unlucky, they have still conceded in all but one of their games this season, the exception being their EFL Cup win over Leyton Orient. Mansfield have averaged 1.83 goals per game, and are tied with Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town for most goals scored this campaign. However, the Stags’ defence have been leaky themselves, with the seven goals conceded the joint highest of teams in the top half of the table. Should new signing Cauley Woodrow be able to get off to a strong start for Wycombe, then there could be a few goals for both teams in this match.
Third Prediction For Wycombe Wanderers vs Mansfield Town – Mansfield Town To Win – 23/10
It has been a very tough start to Mike Dodds’ reign at Wycombe Wanderers, and they have a big ask in this game to turn their fortunes around. Wanderers have not won in the league since mid-April away at Bolton and look to be unable to get results at this moment in time. Mansfield look in great knick right now with strong wins over Blackpool and Leyton Orient in recent weeks but faltered away against the ten men of Lincoln City. Some hope for the hosts could come from Town’s lack of clean sheets this season, but the Stags have usually been able to outscore their opponents. If Wycombe can get on the board first then they may be able to claim a result, but the attacking strength of Nigel Clough’s side should be able to see them through this fixture.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head
Wycombe Wanderers have had a very difficult start to the season, leading on from their troubled end to last season which saw them fall in the playoff semi finals to eventual winners Charlton Athletic. Wanderers have won just once so far this season, in the EFL Cup first round against Leyton Orient, and are through to the third round of the competition having seen off Bromley on penalties. The Chairboys enter the weekend in 22nd place, ahead of only Port Vale and Shrewsbury Town. Wycombe were involved in midweek action in the EFL Trophy against League Two Colchester United, being denied by a 91st minute winner from the Essex side. Deadline Day saw plenty of moves in Buckinghamshire, with three exits in Daniel Udoh heading to Salford City, Alex Hartridge being loaned out to Burton Albion and Garath McLeary leaving by mutual consent. In terms of incomings, Wanderers signed Niall Huggins on loan from Sunderland alongside Nottingham Forest’s Donnell McNeilly, Luton Town‘s Cauley Woodrow and Sam Bell from Bristol City.
Mansfield Town meanwhile have been perhaps the surprise package of the League One season so far and sit in a strong position heading into the weekend after claiming 10 points in their last four matches. The Stags sit in 10th place and are currently two points away from the playoff positions, being spearheaded by plenty of goalscoring from multiple players. Town did have a disappointing result in their last match, having failed to break down Lincoln City at Sincil Bank despite having a man advantage for an hour of play. They claimed a late point from a Nathan Moriah-Welsh strike to cancel off Sonny Bradley’s strike prior to the former Chairboy’s dismissal. Deadline Day was quiet for the Nottinghamshire side, with Tyler Roberts arriving on loan from Birmingham City.
Last season was the first time in seven years that these two sides faced off when both clubs were in League Two. The matches ended going in Wycombe’s favour in each and were played during Matt Bloomfield’s spell at Adams Park as they challenged for automatic promotion. The match in Buckinghamshire ended 1-0 thanks to a 93rd-minute Luke Leahy goal, before Richard Kone and Garath McLeary scored to secure three points despite a leveller from Lucas Akins. Since 2013, Wycombe has won six, drawn four and lost three against the Field Mill side.
Scott Oldham will referee this game, making it his sixth appointment of the season and fourth in League One. He has handed out 18 yellow cards and one straight red card so far this season, and most recently officiated Cardiff City’s decisive victory over Plymouth Argyle last weekend.
