Our Three Predictions For Walsall v Chesterfield

Prediction 1 – Walsall To Win – 7/4

Prediction 2 – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 1/1

Prediction 3 – Chesterfield To Win – 7/5

First Prediction For Walsall v Chesterfield – Walsall To Win – 7/4

A very close game could well be on the cards here, and maybe this call is a little against the odds, and even though both sides had very differing results in the EFL Trophy, with much changed line-ups, the 7-1 loss inflicted on Chesterfield in midweek could be more damaging in the immediate. A lot of teams don’t put maximum effort in those games, but wining does breed confidence, and Walsall won their tie 3-1. At home they have won twice in the league, and they have a good defensive record too with just two conceded in three games at home. Chesterfield, putting aside the anomaly of seven, have an let in five on their travels, and it is that figure that could well be the difference maker as the two swap places in the early stages of the season.

Second Prediction For Walsall v Chesterfield – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 1/1

When you ship seven goals in a game is could be fairly obvious to say you have a defensive problem. Despite the changes in personnel Chesterfield will not want a repeat of that anytime soon, but they have been a little leaky at the back having conceded eight in the six games played so far. The only saving grace is that they have knocked in 11 times and that has helped propel them to second place in the table. Walsall are now finding their feet and are priding themselves on a defence that has only let in four goals overall in League Two play. They only average a goal a game, but that is good enough to make this a decent bet.

Third Prediction For Walsall v Chesterfield – Chesterfield To Win – 7/5

The positive side of scoring plenty of goals means there is a fair chance you will pick up more wins than losses, and the 11-8 scoring record does not do justice to Chesterfields four wins from six with only one loss. The team lies in second place, and will want to stamp further authority on that position with a win here. It will not be easy though as Walsall have one of the tightest defences in the league so far, only four goals shipped in six outings. Only a point separates the two in the table, and both should be in the mix in the latter stages of the season, it is Chesterfield though that come in with a point to prove after not winning in their last two games.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head

Walsall are starting to show signs of what put them in prime position last season, only to fall away so dramatically late on to lose out in the playoffs. Mat Sadler will have learned that the league is indeed a marathon, and not the proverbial sprint. Two fine wins, both 1-0, against Salford then away at Milton Keynes have put them back into the early top six. Connor Barrett has been consistent in August and if he can keep that form up in the coming month, Sadler’s men will be in good shape. Aden Flint and Evan Weir may be the double act at the back that they have been waiting for as they are part of a defence that is solid, and young Harrison Burke is also part of that system that could well be the key to any success the team has this season.

Paul Cook will be happy with the way things are going through the first half dozen games of the new season, only one loss and second in the table is something to keep building on, and this game will serve as a decent test of their future ambitions. Armando Dobra has led the line superbly and notched up three goals, so will definitely have to be closely watched. Young Irishman Dylan Duffy is also making people notice as he has added two more to the teams tally, and been the most creative with three assists. The defence will get better and the veteran duo of Chey Dunkley and Kyle McFadzean have to be the ones to lead the way.
