Lincoln City winger Oscar Thorn is hoping to kick on after an impressive first start for the Imps in their 3-0 win over Notts County earlier this week.
The 21-year-old made the switch to the LNER Stadium from League Two outfit Colchester United last week, making his debut as a late substitute in the 1-1 draw against Mansfield Town. With clubs from League One and Two switching their attention to the EFL Trophy in midweek, Thorn was given an opportunity to stake his claim for a starting berth.
It was a routine win for Michael Skubala’s team, with goals from Sonny Bradley, Ben House and James Collins earning a maiden win in this season’s competition. However, it was Thorn who arguably stole the show, putting in an excellent performance.
Thorn Eager To Show Worth
Lincoln host Wigan Athletic this afternoon on a run of seven games without a defeat in all competitions. They’ve lost just once this season, which came at AFC Wimbledon after defender Adam Jackson was sent off in the first half.
The Imps have drawn their last two league fixtures to slip to ninth in the table and are looking to returning to winning ways against the Latics. A busy end to the transfer window means that Skubala has a host of options across the pitch, with Thorn hoping that he can have a major impact. Speaking ahead of the game, the former Norwich City youngster said:
“I just try to come on the pitch every time I play and make an impact whether that’s with the ball creating attacks or just doing all I can to help the team winning the ball back defensively.
“The Vertu Trophy has done well for me, it’s a competition that I played a lot of minutes in last year for Colchester and I earned my spot in the team from playing in that. Every game is the same, I try to put everything in, show what I can do and show my quality.
“I just try to play as many minutes as possible, whether I’m coming off the bench or starting it doesn’t matter, I want to make an impact and do what I can for the team.”

Michael Skubala has quietly built a squad that looks capable of challenging for a play-off place this season. Oscar Thorn is one of a number of attackers that arrived through the door in the latter stages of the transfer window, and he looks as if he is a player that can add a touch of quality. He was excellent against Notts County on Tuesday and will be hoping for his first league start this afternoon.
