Our Three Predictions For Lincoln City vs Wigan Athletic

  • First Prediction: Lincoln City To Win – 13/10
  • Second Prediction: Both Teams To Score – No – 31/50
  • Third Prediction: Under 2.5 Goals – 11/25

First Prediction For Lincoln City vs Wigan Athletic – Lincoln City To Win – 13/10

Lincoln head into the game in the midst of a seven-game unbeaten run in all competitions. Four of those have come in League One, with AFC Wimbledon the only team to pick up three points against the Imps. Michael Skubala’s team have been particularly strong at the LNER Stadium though. They comfortably beat Reading 2-0 on the opening day before they dished out a 3-2 beating to Plymouth Argyle in a result which arguably flattered the visitors. Mansfield Town were the first team this season to come away from Sincil Bank with anything when they secured a 1-1 draw. However, Lincoln dominated the early stages but were forced to alter their game plan when defender Sonny Bradley was sent off in the first half.

Wigan have been inconsistent thus far, winning two, drawing two and losing two of their opening six fixtures. Their two victories both game at home and they have picked up just one point on the road. The Latics were beaten by Leyton Orient and Luton Town before picking up a draw at Rotherham United. A Lincoln win at over evens is overpriced.

Second Prediction For Lincoln City vs Wigan Athletic – Both Teams To Score – No – 31/50

Lincoln do have just two clean sheets to their name and will be missing key defender Sonny Bradley, but they are a team who are strong at home. They have shown their defensive resilience in their last two outings, with Bolton only breaching their back line to bag a late equaliser in the 97th minute a fortnight ago, and even then, that came courtesy of a Tom Hamer own goal. They were forced to play the majority of the game with 10 men against Mansfield Town last weekend and only a brilliant team move from the Stags sa them concede. They’ll be confident of keeping a clean sheet here.

Wigan’s away form has been really poor and they have failed to score in two of their three games on the road thus far. They did earn a 2-2 draw at Rotherham, but one of the goals came from Milers defender Sean Raggett, whilst Paul Mullin grabbed a late equaliser. They’ll need to be at their best to find a way past Lincoln’s defence.

Third Prediction For Lincoln City vs Wigan Athletic – Under 2.5 Goals – 11/25

There’s a reason this market is such low odds, making it impossible to ignore. Just one of Lincoln’s six league games have produced three or more goals, which came in the 3-2 win over Plymouth Argyle last month. Meanwhile, Wigan only fare slightly better, with two of their first six outings going over the 2.5 goal mark. One of those was on the opening day, when they beat Northampton Town 3-1.

It’s also worth considering last season’s meetings between the two teams. They played out a 0-0 stalemate at the LNER Stadium before a 1-1 draw at the Brick Community Stadium in February.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-To-Head

Lincoln currently sit ninth in League One but they have shown during the early stages of the campaign that they are capable of staking a claim for a top six finish. They opened their account with a 2-0 opening day win over Reading, but went down by the same scoreline at AFC Wimbledon a week later. That is the Imps only defeat of the season in all competitions thus far, and they will feel that they were capable of getting something out of that game after Adam Jackson was sent off in the first half when the scores were level. The Imps soon returned to winning ways though, picking up back-to-back maximums against Plymouth Argyle (3-2) and Northampton Town (1-0). They head into this fixture on the back of successive 1-1 draws, the first of which was seen as a good point at Bolton Wanderers. The second saw them drop their first points at home though, with Mansfield Town earning a share of the spoils. Similar to the game against Wimbledon though, it was a case of what might have been after Sonny Bradley was dismissed in the first half when Michael Skubala’s team were leading and comfortably on top.

Wigan will feel that their recent performances have garnered the points they have deserved. Like Lincoln, the Latics head into this fixture on back-to-back draws, earning a point against Stockport County (1-1) and Rotherham United (2-2). However, they are now three league games without a win having lost 1-0 at Kenilworth Road against Luton Town. Ryan Mason’s side have two league wins to their name this season, picking up three points at home versus Northampton (3-1) and Peterborough United (2-0). They have lost two of their three away days though, with the other defeat coming at Leyton Orient (2-0).

Wigan are unbeaten against Lincoln in their last five meetings. The Latics have won two whilst the other three have ended level, including both of last season’s clashes. The Imps last picked up a maximum in this fixture in 2021, although their last victory at Sincil Bank came the year prior. Overall, Wigan have emerged victorious in 16 of the previous 33 meetings, with Lincoln winning 12 and five ending in a draw.
