Our Three Predictions For Luton Town vs AFC Wimbledon

  • Prediction 1 – Nahki Wells To Score – 11/10
  • Prediction 2 – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 7/10
  • Prediction 3 – Luton Town To Win -4/9

First Prediction For Luton Town vs AFC Wimbledon – Nahki Wells To Score – 11/10

Matt Bloomfield’s Hatters have made moves in the window and one of their marquee signings was Nakhi Wells. The Bermudan had his strongest season in a while for Bristol City under Liam Manning and despite his age, he shows no signs of slowing down. Likely paired alongside either Cauley Woodrow or Lasse Nordas for this fixture, the 35-year-old will be a handful for the Dons’ defence. Keen to impress in what will be a home debut, Wells will have plenty of chances provided to him, and he certainly can finish.

Second Prediction For Luton Town vs AFC Wimbledon – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 7/10

It is hard to judge both sides based on pre-season, with those fixtures never being an accurate reflection on what will happen in the months ahead. Wimbledon are currently missing key striker Omar Bugiel, but he may be ready to play in this game and if so he will be their main goal threat alongside Matty Stevens, who finished joint-third in the League Two Golden Boot race. With Wells and January signing Lasse Nordas is likely to play for the hosts, there are capable strikers on the pitch and with defences not 100% sharp, goals could flow under the floodlights and cameras on Friday.

Third Prediction For Luton Town vs AFC Wimbledon – Luton Town To Win – 4/9

These two sides were two divisions apart last season, so it is a safer pick to back the Championship side. Now that Bloomfield will have had a full summer being able to train his players under his style, Town will play more cohesively with a manager who could easily have won promotion with Wycombe Wanderers had he stayed. Strengthening across the pitch with Josh Keeley, Hakeem Odoffin and Nigel Lonwijk, they will be a very daunting prospect for any side. Wimbledon have lost key players like Owen Goodman, James Tilley and Josh Neufville to league rivals and that may hurt them until more replacements are signed.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head

Luton Town have bolstered their squad ahead of their return to League One. Whilst they have lost key assets like Carlton Morris, Thelo Aasgaard and Thomas Kaminski, Matt Bloomfield has recruited brilliantly, with a permanent transfer for Josh Keeley after his brilliant campaign at Leyton Orient. Shoring up their defence after last season’s disappointment has seen Hakeem Odoffin and Kal Naismith, with Millwall‘s George Savile joining on a free transfer. Town will be in the conversation for the League One title, alongside Huddersfield Town and the two other relegated sides in Cardiff City and Plymouth Argyle. Elijah Adebayo and Jacob Brown are likely to miss out on this game through injury, whilst Mads Andersen has made a return to the squad in their pre-season draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

AFC Wimbledon make the move up into League One following their playoff final triumph over Walsall. However, it has been far from an ideal transfer window for the Plough Lane side, losing key players like Josh Neufville to Bradford City and James Tilley to Wycombe on top of the end of star goalie Owen Goodman’s loan. Of course, Johnnie Jackson has addressed these absences, with the signing of Nathan Bishop from Sunderland, and brought back former Don Steve Seddon at left-wing back. On the injury front, there are doubts over Omar Bugiel and Sam Hutchinson, but they have featured in pre-season matches.

These two sides last played each other in 2019 in League One, with the fortunes of Luton skyrocketing in the years since then. Town won the away game at the start of the season, before they split a 2-2 draw at Kenilworth Road, with Seddon clinching a last-minute equaliser for Wimbledon.
