Wrexham are gearing up to submit a new, revised offer in their pursuit of Lewis O’Brien.
The Nottingham Forest man looks on his way out at The City Ground despite the prospect of Morgan Gibbs-White leaving for Tottenham Hotspur and the legal argument surrounding that deal. Reports from Alan Nixon earlier in the month had suggested that the two sides had struck an agreement for £5 million for the former Huddersfield Town man, but that had since fizzled out.
New Bid Pending
Now, in his latest report through his Patreon, Nixon has stated that the Hollywood-owned side are gearing up for a new offer for O’Brien, with a different structure. Whilst it was confirmed that the initial £5 million deal was still in place, this latest move will offer less money to Forest, but improved personal terms with the midfielder in order to secure a move.
Wrexham have gone big in their first transfer window in the Championship, agreeing club record deals for full-back Liberato Cacace and look geared to move for both Josh Windass and Kieffer Moore, according to reports earlier today. Midfielders have been targeted, with a deal already agreed for Bolton Wanderers star George Thomason for a £1.2 million fee.
O’Brien has just one year left on his deal in Nottingham, and has only played 17 times for the club despite spending three years at the club. He has seen four loan moves come and go, including two in the Championship with Middlesbrough and Swansea City. He played 16 times for The Jacks during the second half of the season under Alan Sheehan’s revitalisation of the South Wales club.

This latest bid from Wrexham, whilst structured differently, is likely just to get the deal over the line for Lewis O’Brien. With his Premier League wages vastly outnumbering most players in the Championship, it requires clubs to give more incentivised contracts to prospective players to convince them to move. With a move for a Championship stalwart like O’Brien pending, it puts the futures of current players like Ollie Rathbone and Andy Cannon into doubt with Thomason and the former Swansea man on their way to the Racecourse.
