Wrexham Interested In Welsh International Striker

Wrexham have excelled across the board over the past few seasons, but one area that Phil Parkinson will be looking to improve following the club’s promotion from League One would be its strikeforce.

No Wrexham player reached double figures for league goals last season, though Sam Smith found the back of the net 18 times in total as he spent the first half of the season with Reading.

But, this could change this season as the Red Dragons are reportedly interested in signing Sheffield United’s Kieffer Moore, according to Darren Witcoop.

Wrexham Interested In Kieffer Moore

Despite the departures of Sam Dalby, Steven Fletcher and poster boy Paul Mullin this summer, Phil Parkinson still has a remarkable five strikers at his disposal, not including Jake Bickerstaff, who spent last season on loan in the National League.

But many of these players are experienced frontmen who are perhaps not quite able to make the jump back into the Championship, given their age and fitness.

The Red Dragons have already signed Ryan Hardie from Plymouth earlier in the summer, thereby adding some proven Championship quality to their strike force, but they are in need of more strength-in-depth alongside Smith.

They hold, alongside one other Championship club, hold an interest in Moore, who has played 49 times and scored 14 goals for Wales, though no formal bid is thought to have been made at this stage. The 32-year-old is valued at €1 million by Transfermarkt.

The Torquay-born man only joined Sheffield United in the summer of 2024, but failed to nail down a spot in Chris Wilder’s first-choice team, starting just 18 games in the League.

Moore was also slightly less prolific than many expected him to be, scoring just six times in 30 appearances in all competitions.

However, he has proven Championship pedigree. The giant striker scored 20 goals for Cardiff City in the 2020/21 season before netting nine times in 26 appearances during the following campaign.

After a year-and-a-half in the Premier League with AFC Bournemouth, he scored seven times in 18 appearances for Ipswich Town during the 2023/24 season, helping to fire the Tractor Boys to promotion.

Writer’s View

Wrexham’s squad is, understandably, a slight mess, given how quickly they have moved through the divisions.

The likes of Ollie Palmer were signed when the Red Dragons were in the National League, and Parkinson will have to brutally omit these players from the first team, as he did with Mullin, if Wrexham are to keep progressing.

Moore offers tremendous Championship experience and a good goalscoring pedigree, which is exactly what Wrexham need at the moment.

He would pair perfectly with Hardie, another proven Championship goalscorer, who does not mind dropping slightly deeper and helping to link up play.
