Latest Sheffield United Signing Reveals Reasons For Joining

Latest Sheffield United signing Louie Barry has revealed the chance to work under Ruben Selles again played a key role in his decision to join the club.

The 22-year-old’s expected arrival at Bramall Lane was confirmed earlier this afternoon. He had reportedly been close to rejoining Hull City in a £3.5 million deal earlier this month, but the Tigers were hit with a three-window transfer embargo.

This put an end to any chance of heading back to the MKM Stadium, with the Blades almost immediately emerging as the front runners for his signature. The winger had spent the second half of last season in East Yorkshire but he made just four Championship appearances before injury put an end to his season.

Barry Makes Ruben Selles Admission

Selles was the man who brought Barry to Hull in January and although things didn’t work out, the ex-Stockport County loanee has admitted his admiration for the Spaniard. Speaking to official club media following the announcement of his season long loan from Aston Villa, he said:

“The first time I had conversations about it, I just couldn’t wait to come here. The season is three weeks away, and I know we have a couple of friendlies before, but I am just buzzing to get started.

“I’ve been at Villa, playing games, training and working hard just for whatever will come next. As I say, when a club like this comes calling, you can’t turn it down and I can’t wait to get into it.

“I love his (Rubén Sellés) style of play, it is exactly what I stand for as a player. I just want to get to the goal as quick as possible. I have got a really good relationship with the gaffer and the staff, so I can’t wait to get into training now.”

Louie Barry has already proven he is an exceptional talent. His two separate loan spells at Stockport were an overwhelming success, first helping them earn promotion from League Two. He handled the step up to League One with ease, bagging 15 goals in 23 appearances before it was decided to send him to the Championship in January. Although things didn’t work out, he was still chased by a host of second tier clubs ahead of his move to Sheffield United. If he can replicate his form of the past couple of seasons, he could be the man to help fire the Blades back to the Premier League.
