Plymouth Argyle‘s long-standing pursuit of Liverpool loanee Jayden Danns has heated up as multiple other Championship sides have entered the mix.
The Pilgrims were close to agreeing a deal for the striker over the summer but a back injury prevented Wayne Rooney being able to capture his target. This interest has since been reaffirmed approaching the January transfer window.
Five Teams Join Transfer Battle
According to a report from Football League World, five new Championship teams would like to sign Danns on a loan deal this window, with Hull City, Blackburn Rovers, Preston North End, Oxford United and Stoke City named. Plymouth, under their new manager Miron Muslic, are continuing their pursuit this window according to Darren Witcoop.
Some sides named are pursuing strikers in this window, with Blackburn pursuing Brandon Thomas-Asante and monitoring Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford. Stoke City will also be looking for a new striker after seemingly losing Tom Cannon after a bid from Sheffield United was accepted by Leicester.
Hull City have already made attacking reinforcements with the loan signing of Joe Gelhardt and a deal for Real Salt Lake’s Matt Crooks. Oxford meanwhile have made a move to bring in Millwall forward Tom Bradshaw for an undisclosed fee.
Any future moves do however depend on whether Liverpool decide to keep Danns, with reports linking fellow forward Darwin Nunez away from Anfield. The 19-year-old has played twice this season, scoring against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup third round.
Writer’s View
Jayden Danns is in high demand right now and should Liverpool and Arne Slot sanction a loan move away, he will surely become a starting striker at whatever club he arrives at. Stoke City and Plymouth Argyle are two destinations he would be a nailed-on starter for, with the club in desperate need of new goalscorers. Blackburn would be an interesting choice and could be a great compliment to Brandon Thomas-Asante should John Eustace opt to play him on the wing.
