Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has commented on the fallout from Dejphon Chansiri’s tumultuous Fans’ Forum appearance and the situation around transfers at the club.
The Owls’ owner was pressed by fans over the week which had some surreal moments, including the sudden departure of Shea Charles and an admission that there had been no communication between Chansiri and Rohl since December.
Rohl Hopeful To Resolve Rift
Speaking to the press ahead of Wednesday’s match against Yorkshire rivals Leeds United, Rohl addressed the claims by Chansiri. (Quotes via Yorkshire Post):
“The best thing is communication and now he is here in Sheffield, now we have the opportunity to talk face to face, I think this is important.
“What is important is that we are listening to each other and try to understand each other. Then, there should not be an issue.
“I said something that something is damaged or the chairman said something about this. So I think we have to do it in a good way and in a communicative way. For me, I think there’s some things we have to do with the communication.
“The most important thing is the club. I think we have to do everything right for the club. We are in a good position in the table and we should try and put all our energy into this and this is what our fans deserve.”
On Chansiri’s claim that he had not seen a transfer target list for this window, Rohl added:
“We have a process in the club. In early January, we had a meeting with the head of recruitment Amadeu (Paixao). I think it’s clear from my side.
“If it’s not clear, then I am a little surprised. But it isn’t a problem. If there is a problem, then we can fix it very soon and make a meeting and then we can go forward, of course.”
Writer’s View
Danny Rohl has taken a very diplomatic route to resolving the concerns between him and Dejphon Chansiri. This is the perfect time for the pair to resume talking and set out a good plan for the remainder of this window. Wednesday will want to do some deals and most importantly replace Shea Charles. They did briefly show interest in the Portsmouth-bound Tommy Waddingham and will surely seek an alternative striker. The most important thing is to focus on the club and their status as a solid Championship-level team, which thanks to the German, has become a reality following last season’s relegation battle.
