“Very Brave To Say That” – Disastrous Evening At Sheffield Wednesday Fans Forum

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri had a night to forget during a five-hour fans forum at Hillsborough last night.

The Thai businessman has entered his tenth year owning the Owls, but relationships between him and the fans have soured dramatically in recent times.

Supporters were left dismayed and scratching their heads, wondering what is next for the tenth-place Championship outfit.

Ownership

Unsurprisingly, the biggest talking point of the evening was about him selling the club. Protests have intensified over the past year, with calls for Chansiri to leave continuing despite an excellent campaign on the pitch. But the owner remained committed to his ownership of the South Yorkshire side, at least in parts of the evening.

“I never think I’m going to sell this club. It’s a silly question. If the fans really don’t want me to be here, I’m happy to sell.”

“I’m happy to sell the club. If the majority want me to leave, find a buyer.” He claimed that “It’s not my job to find a buyer.”

Winter Recruitment

One of the issues raised in the fans forum was the winter transfer window, with the Owls yet to make a signing. Quite remarkably, Chansiri claimed that both Danny Röhl and the recruitment team had not given him a list of potential targets. He later revealed that the last time he spoke to the Wednesday manager was in December.

“If nothing comes to me, what do you want me to do? I’ve prepared something behind the scenes so that will be fine. He (Danny) needs to speak to me, not me speak to him. I’m the boss. My employee needs to talk to me,” Chansiri remarked.

Danny Röhl

Former Bayern Munich coach Röhl has been a hugely popular figure since joining the club in 2023, miraculously keeping the club in the division last season. But Chansiri wasn’t impressed with the lack of communication between him and the Owls manager.

“I tell every coach to report to me a minimum of once a week. If you don’t do that, then you break the regulation.”

“I always support the coach. He’s very brave to say that,” Chansiri added about Röhl getting fans to ask the owner about transfers.

Writer’s View

All the progress under Danny Röhl could be undone without backing the German manager in this window. More concerningly, the Wednesday owner appears to be going nowhere in the immediate future, while key figures like Shea Charles have already left. Even the most ardent of Chansiri’s backers must be struggling to support him following these latest comments.
