Our Three Predictions For Plymouth Argyle vs Queens Park Rangers:

  • First Prediction For Plymouth Argyle vs Queens Park Rangers: Match Result – Draw – 9/4
  • Second Prediction For Plymouth Argyle vs Queens Park Rangers: Over 2.5 Goals – 49/50
  • Third Prediction For Plymouth Argyle vs Queens Park Rangers: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 19/25

First Prediction For Plymouth Argyle vs Queens Park Rangers: Match Result – Draw – 9/4

In a game that feels so tough to call, a draw naturally appears the likely outcome. A couple of weeks ago, that outcome would have been a surprise given QPR’s impressive form that has continued before this game. But Argyle have began 2025 steadily if not impressive just yet, leaving their best performance and certainly result of the campaign for the FA Cup, shocking Brentford. Each of the Pilgrims three encounters this year have ended level, finally putting a stop to leaking goals at the same rate before the New Year. QPR’s eleven draws meanwhile leaves them third in the division for the most games without a winner in the second tier this season, making this encounter feel finely poised, at least on paper ahead of the early kick-off on Saturday.

Second Prediction For Plymouth Argyle vs Queens Park Rangers: Over 2.5 Goals – 49/50

Up until the last few weeks, goals would be a near certainty in games involving Plymouth. Unfortunately for fans of the Devon outfit, they came frequently at the wrong end. But they have only shipped once in their last three, appearing to finally tighten up at the back, but have still not scored enough at the other end just yet. QPR though will be confident of testing the Pilgrims new found defensive resolve, scoring at least twice in all three of their games in 2025. There were a mammoth eight goals in the recent FA Cup tie against Leicester, but six of them were for the Foxes. That put an abrupt end to their recent good defensive record, conceding no more than one in ten of the Hoops last eleven league games. Expect a few goals on Saturday lunchtime.

Third Prediction For Plymouth Argyle vs Queens Park Rangers: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 19/25

Only once in the Hoops last nine games have they failed to get on the scoresheet, and despite Plymouth’s improvement in defence they will be confident of breaching their defence at least once in this encounter. Argyle meanwhile are very hit and miss in the forward department, but have scored in three of their past four games in all competitions. Buoyed by recent results, they can be confident of finding the net against QPR. The Hoops will likewise be confident of scoring against a defence that have leaked 54 goals in just 26 Championship games.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

Argyle appear to have finally kickstarted their campaign with an unbeaten January to date. Wayne Rooney lost his job for the struggling Pilgrims at the end of 2024, with his side shipping the most goals in the top four tiers this campaign. While conceding twice on New Year’s Day against Bristol City, Plymouth’s two goals including Julio Pleguezuelo’s stoppage time equaliser saw them earn a vital point.

Plymouth kept a huge clean sheet despite being managerless in the away encounter at Mark Robins’ new side, Stoke City. A third draw in the Championship in succession arrived on Tuesday evening with new head coach Miron Muslic in the dugout, clawing back the gap to survival to three points. In a break from league action, Plymouth caused arguably the biggest upset of the FA Cup 3rd Round weekend by defeating Premier League Brentford through a late Morgan Whittaker goal. Despite their woeful defensive record, and given the Bees were the top scorers in the top-flight, the Pilgrims miraculously held on to cause a shock.

Queens Park Rangers are the epitome of a side turning their campaign around. Going into the final international break of the year, the Hoops sat at the foot of the second tier with ten points from their opening fifteen games. Fast forward to the current day, and only the top two have taken more points than Martí Cifuentes’ side in the time since, finally living up to the pre-season expectation following their strong end to last season.

The only negative result in the past two months was their Boxing Day reverse against Swansea City, an anomalous result given it is their only loss in eleven league games. Rangers have since responded with a draw at Norwich, before defeating Watford and Luton to start 2025. The West London outfit now sit thirteenth, closer to the top six than the bottom three. The Hoops too faced Premier League opposition in the FA Cup in Leicester City and had pegged the Foxes back to 3-2 before half-time, but lost 6-2 in a thriller under fog.

Each of the last three games between these two have ended level, including the 1-1 draw back in August. Surprisingly though there have only been a further seven stalemates throughout the history of this encounter, with Plymouth victorious on 25 occasions to QPR’s eighteen.
