Sheffield United Plot Premier League Raid

Sheffield United have identified Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Tommy Doyle as a potential transfer target to solve their midfield issues.

The Blades are missing key figures due to injury with Ollie Arblaster out for the season and Vini Souza temporarily out, and will miss this weekend’s fixture against Norwich City. It has led to the emergence of youngster Sydie Peck, with the 20-year-old starting 12 of their last 13 games.

Doyle Interest Emerges

According to the Sheffield Star, Chris Wilder’s side have identified Doyle as a potential target but is not the first choice option to bring into Bramall Lane this window. Hamza Choudhury is still the target to sign, but with negotiations with Leicester City being slow has led to United exploring other choices.

Doyle is no stranger to South Yorkshire, playing 38 times for The Blades in 2022/23 as they won promotion back into the Premier League under Paul Heckingbottom. Wolves swooped in to get him on loan from Manchester City, with Gary O’Neil signing the player permanently.

However, this season has saw his action much more limited, with 19 appearances so far and just three starts in the Premier League. He is not the only name under consideration as an alternative to Choudhury, with Shea Charles also on their radar after his sudden recall from Steel City rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

Writer’s View

Tommy Doyle could be a good short-term solution to solve Sheffield United’s injury issues this season. He knows the club well and is someone who fans wanted to be brought back over the summer of 2023. His versatility will be a good asset to have to complement Tom Davies and Sydie Peck, as well as Vini Souza when he returns from his hamstring injury. With a new manager in Vitor Pereira arriving at Molineux, Doyle could be someone moved along in order to implement his own beliefs in the West Midlands.
