Portsmouth manager John Mousinho has said that Mark O’Mahony’s injury didn’t look great’ after their draw with Swansea City.
The Brighton and Hove Albion loanee was brought on in place for Colby Bishop in the second half but lasted just over 10 minutes on the pitch, being forced off with a hip issue.
Concern But Mousinho Makes Prediction
O’Mahony has played 9 times for Pompey since arriving on loan and has scored twice, both in the Championship. Since the return of Bishop following his return from heart surgery, the 19 year-old has regularly been a bench choice for Mousinho, with regular runouts.
Speaking to the media after the game, the former Oxford United player said (Quotes via SussexWorld):
“I don’t really know how bad it is at the moment. Mark didn’t look great, but I don’t think it’s too bad. It’s just a whack to the hip.
“He wasn’t moving particularly well, there was ice on his hip after he came off. I didn’t really have a chance to see how he was after the game.
“So that was a frustrating one.”
He is currently being assessed by the medical team at Fratton Park as the club prepare for their next match at home to Bristol City next weekend. A win over The Robins would boost their survival hopes as relegation rivals Hull City and Queens Park Rangers face Blackburn Rovers and Norwich City respectively, with Pompey’s following fixture being against The Canaries.
Writer’s View
Whilst certainly a headache for Portsmouth, this is not a very big issue for them. O’Mahony may have had to come off but based on John Mousinho’s words, it is not serious and he should recover for their next games. Even without the Brighton loanee, they still have plenty of options in Bishop, Elias Sorensen, Kusini Yengi and also Middlesbrough loanee Sam Silvera capable of being the leading striker.
