Hull City’s Kasey Palmer has delivered a candid assessment of the state of affairs at the club following the sacking of Tim Walter.
The Tigers’ struggles this season culminated in Walter’s dismissal after a string of poor results left the team languishing in the Championship relegation zone.
Belief Amid Turmoil
Despite their precarious position, Palmer insists the squad still harbours hopes of a turnaround. With only three wins from their opening 17 games and a nine-match winless streak, Hull’s fortunes hit rock bottom with a 2-0 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday. This result proved to be the final straw for Walter’s tenure, leaving Andy Dawson to take over as caretaker manager.
“I think there’s a massive opportunity. It starts off with winning games, but it’s not as simple as saying if we win a few games, we’re going to climb the table. We have to win the games first, and we’ve struggled to do that so far. There’s still 29 games left… With the squad we have, we believe we can still turn the season around,” Palmer told reporters.
Palmer, signed from Coventry City on transfer deadline day, was outspoken about his frustrations under Walter, particularly regarding limited playing opportunities. Reflecting on the managerial change, he remarked that the decision came as no surprise given the results. However, he remained optimistic about Hull’s future prospects.
“There’s talent in this squad capable of fighting for promotion, whether through play-offs or automatically. To be near the bottom is not what anyone expected,” Palmer added.
Dawson, a familiar figure at Hull, now faces the task of reviving team morale and securing points. Palmer acknowledged the interim boss’s efforts to rally the dressing room and instil positivity ahead of Saturday’s clash with Middlesbrough, a side chasing play-off aspirations.
“Daws knows the club better than anyone and his message is simple—stick together, work hard, and focus on what’s ahead,” Palmer said, emphasising the need for unity and determination in the coming weeks.
Writer’s View
Tim Walter’s dismissal was inevitable given Hull City’s dismal form, but the focus now shifts to Dawson’s ability to stabilise the team. With a squad boasting promotion-worthy talent, the Tigers must quickly rediscover their confidence and cohesion. Palmer’s comments highlight the collective belief within the group, but turning belief into results will be the ultimate test in the weeks ahead.
