Tim Walter’s spell as Hull City manager has come to an end after Tigers chair Acun Ilicali held a board meeting today amidst reports he has been sacked.
The German was brought in as a replacement to fan favourite Liam Rosenior but his tenure has been swiftly end after less than 150 days in charge in East Yorkshire as they faced yet another defeat in midweek. John Percy and Mike McGrath of The Telegraph reported that the decision had been made to sack the manager from his post before confirmation from the club.
Meeting Held Today
According to Hull Live, The Turkish owners of The Tigers held a board meeting today (Wednesday, 27th November) with the discussion prioritising deciding the fate of Walter. The team have reached yet another low ebb after a poor showing at home to White Rose rivals Sheffield Wednesday, with The Owls outclassing their opponents and the City manager subject to jeering throughout from the MKM Stadium faithful.
A statement from the club confirmed the board’s decision to oust the 49-year-old, which said:
“Hull City can confirm we have parted company with head coach Tim Walter with immediate effect.
“Assistant head coaches Julian Hübner and Filip Tapalović have also left the club.
“First-team coach Andy Dawson will take interim charge while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a permanent successor.
“We would like to thank Tim, Julian and Filip for their efforts during their time at the MKM Stadium and wish them well for the future.”
Writer’s View
Hull City have sacked Tim Walter after a miserable tenure in charge of the club. They were on the cusp of the playoffs last season and now find themselves in a relegation scrap. Whilst they have lost key figures like Jaden Philogene, Tyler Morton and Fabio Carvalho, the personnel should still be good enough to be towards the right end of the table. Ultimately with the German relieved of his duties, it is a lesson of the grass not always being greener on the other side when Acun Ilicali opted to remove Liam Rosenior back in May.
