Norwich City January Transfer Rumour Quashed

Norwich City will reportedly turn down any offers for Borja Sainz in January amidst rumours he may move abroad.

Reports have linked the Spanish international to Turkish Super Lig side Galatasaray, two years removed from the last time he played in the country for Gireunspor.

City Hold Firm, Set Demands

According to a large social media account reporting Galatasaray news, the Istanbul club had struck a deal for the winger after his brilliant start to the season.

However, these reports have been shot down by local Norwich paper The Pink’ Un, revealing that Johannes Hoff Thorup’s side are adamant that Sainz would stay at Carrow Road.

That report states that the club have set their price tag for the 23-year-old at €22 million (£18.2 million), which is far above Gala’s expectations to spend on the transfer.

The Canaries’ owner Mark Attanasio has previously voiced his opinion of keeping the player in Norfolk, saying:

“We don’t need to sell Borja in January. Frankly, we don’t need to sell them ever.

“We can control what we can control in regards to what happens to our players.

“It’s just at some point there’s an element of fairness, if I understand the ecosystem, where you’re getting paid a very full price – it doesn’t have to be an extreme price – and it’s something that someone wants to do.”

Other reports have linked Sainz with moves back to his homeland, with Athletic Bilbao, Villarreal and Atletico Madrid all named.

Writer’s View

It seems that Norwich City will not budge this January for Borja Sainz and it will have to be a summer move for prospective buyers to secure their player. Galatasaray is probably the best choice for him, enabling to reunite with former teammate Gabriel Sara and work alongside world-class players such as Victor Osimhen in a team that will regularly obtain Champions League football. A Norwich promotion could throw a spanner into the works though.
