The draw for the FA Cup third round has been made as Championship teams join the competition alongside clubs from the Premier League.
The third round this year will be notable by a distinct lack of non-league teams. Only Tamworth and Dagenham & Redbridge remain from below the top four divisions, indicating that the decision to remove replays from the first round stage is having an impact on cup upsets. Kettering Town, Oldham Athletic and Harborough Town all held league opponents to a draw after 90 minutes, only to crash out of the competition in extra time.
There are some clubs which do still have the opportunity to earn a potentially big-money tie for the first time though. Bromley picked up a 2-1 win at Solihull Moors to earn a place in the third round, whilst Salford City beat Cheltenham Town to progress.
The second round did produce some big scoring results, with Peterborough United edging Notts County 4-3 in a thriller, Lincoln City beating Crawley Town by the same scoreline, Reading overcoming Harborough 5-3 and Charlton Athletic emerging with a 4-0 victory over League Two title challengers Walsall.
