Swansea City Receive Boost In Contract Negotiation

Luke Williams has revealed that talks between Swansea City and Ben Cabango surrounding a new contract are progressing well.

The defender is out of contract at the end of this season and The Swans are looking to tie him down to an extended deal for the foreseeable future.

“A Much Healthier Position”

Swansea have already secured deals for Liam Cullen to remain at the club and brought in free agent Cyrus Christie over the past month, with the latter making his second debut against Oxford United last week.

Speaking to Wales Online about Cabango, former Notts County boss Williams gave a positive update.

“Ben has taken really the initiative and he’s kind of setting the parameters in a really good way. The message is he has to concentrate on the block of games before the international break and then the conversation will carry on.

“We’re in a much healthier position because we have dialogue between Ben, his agent and the football club in a respectful way. There is a two-way conversation and it is at a really good level.”

Fellow centre-back Harry Darling is also being pursued for a new deal by City but talks with the former Cambridge United man are not as advanced as the ones with Cabango.

“We have a date for conversations to be had and it’s all being done for the minimum impact for the player.

“They’re both two players that have never looked for one moment like they’re not committed to the club, ever.

“We have to help them keep that headspace. Things are moving in the right direction and moving forward with good communication and a lot of respect from both sides, and this is the way forward.”

Writer’s View

Both Harry Darling and Ben Cabango are crucial to Swansea City’s performances this season so securing them before January is crucial for the club. With the international break next week, it gives The Swans a prime opportunity to secure them to new deals. With Darling in particular it is perfect as he will not be involved in any international action, whilst Cabango will surely play for Wales. The pair are part of the fourth-best defence this season in the Championship and deserved to be rewarded as such.
