Our Three Predictions For Blackpool vs Northampton Town

  • Prediction 1 – Both Sides To Score – 33/50
  • Prediction 2 – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 16/25
  • Prediction 3 – Result To End In A Draw – 3/1

Above are our expert selected odds from the best sports betting sites in the UK.

First Prediction For Blackpool vs Northampton Town – Both Sides To Score – 33/50

Their attacking records suggest that both sides are certainly capable of getting on the board this weekend. The Tangerines have an average of 1.5 goals scored and will have Kyle Joseph at their disposal, with the former Swansea City man scoring six times this season. Northampton’s record is slightly worse at an average of 1.29 goals per game but do have more of their attacking players back in action with Sam Hoskins returning to support Mitch Pinnock.

Second Prediction For Blackpool vs Northampton Town – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 16/25

Goals are very common occurrences in both of these side’s games. Blackpool have conceded two or more in three of their last five matches and across the League One season have let in an average of two. Northampton’s record stands slightly better at an average of 1.5 goals conceded, and only kept a clean sheet once in their last five, against Leicester City’s academy in the EFL Trophy. The Cobblers have brought Martyn Waghorn into the fold and the former Derby County man can surely contribute.

Third Prediction For Blackpool vs Northampton Town – Result To End In A Draw – 3/1

It feels like there is very little separating these two sides so a draw could be the likeliest of results. Northampton are coming into this clash in the midst of an injury crisis but still have some strong players to rely on when they travel to Bloomfield Road. Blackpool may be on slightly shaky ground with three results in their last five across all competitions seeing the club concede two or more. This one will be a battle of who can outscore the other but they look poised to draw.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head

Both sides are on extremely inconsistent runs over their last five games in a schedule that has also included games in the FA Cup and in the EFL Trophy. Northampton’s FA Cup exploits are more well-known, having been victims of a giant killing when local rivals Kettering Town came from behind to win at Sixfields. Since then they handily beat Leicester City’s academy in the Trophy before returning to league action last weekend with a draw with title favourites Birmingham City, clinching a point at the death. They faced Burton Albion on Tuesday night, losing 5-2 but secured their place in the knockout stages.

Steve Bruce’s side have won once in their last five after a win over Gillingham which sealed their place in the FA Cup Second Round. Their 2-2 with Lancashire rivals Wigan Athletic saw a return to some competitiveness following that 5-1 humbling at the hands of Peterborough United. The Tangerines then drew with Liverpool’s academy in the EFL Trophy, and despite losing on penalties, sealed their ticket into the knockout phase. This weekend’s action was much less positive, receiving a 3-0 loss to Leyton Orient, leaving that blistering form that came with the appointment of Bruce firmly behind them. Midweek saw them face Harrogate Town where they drew 2-2, with a win on penalties sealing The Seasiders top spot in their group.

Last season’s games saw both sides share a win a piece in their away games. Matthew Pennington scored the only goal of the game at Northampton, whilst Cobblers star Sam Hoskins scored the winner at Bloomfield Road in their first encounter. Across the last seven matches, there have been no draws with Town taking three wins and Blackpool claiming four.
