Young Wrexham defender Aaron James has hinted that he will be looking for a loan move in January to build up his experience in senior football, after once again impressing in the EFL Trophy.
The Welshman had a solid game in Wrexham’s back three at League Two Port Vale last night, a game that finished 1-1 with the hosts winning on penalties. Both teams secured qualification for the knockout stages however, with Phil Parkinson’s side topping the group.
When speaking to club media via The Wrexham Insider, the teenager spoke about relishing the opportunity to play in these matches when called upon:
“It’s been brilliant. I think the only way you can truly improve in football is by playing as many matches as possible, so getting the game time, the minutes, in this competition is really important, alongside the Central League games.
“It’s really good to play in those games, to be around the first-team and kind of get that experience and hopefully progress further in the future.”
He also spoke about his desire to play more first-team football, and hinted at the fact he may seek a loan move in the near future to help improve his footballing ability, as well as highlighting the relaxing platform that young players in this Wrexham team can thrive off:
I would like to maybe go on loan in January to play more minutes,” James says. “[But] these opportunities have helped develop me. Playing against a proper good EFL side, it can only help my development alongside the other young lads.
“So hopefully the opportunities keep coming and I keep taking them!
“Just enjoy it, that is the main message from the coaching staff and all the players. And I have done. There’s not a lot of pressure put on the young lads. They create a really good environment for the development young players like myself, like Josh, like Harry Ash.”
Wrexham sit third in League One after securing promotion last year and will be looking to go far in the EFL Trophy this year, after the underwhelming defeat to Harrogate Town ensured there would be no fairytale FA Cup run this year. They head to Stockport County this weekend for a real six-pointer as far as the promotion picture is concerned

Aaron James committed his future to the club by signing a new contract back in June but he could be right in thinking that a loan move will perfectly assist his development, with the first-team squad very hard to currently break into with experienced defenders currently in form such as Dan Scarr and Max Cleworth.
But you have to say he is one of a number of young Wrexham stars who have impressed when called upon, and he certainly is one to keep a look out for in the future, and one to look out for in the loan market when January comes around.
