Steve Agnew has insisted that there are “places up for grabs” when Blackpool face Lancashire rivals Wigan Athletic this Monday night.
The Seasiders has tailed off from their hot streak when Steve Bruce took charge at Bloomfield Road and have now lost their last three in a row. This time it was Peterborough United’s turn to inflict damage on The Tangerines, running out to a 5-1 thrashing at London Road.
All Change On Monday
Blackpool have the fortune of sitting back this weekend with their derby with Wigan set to take place on Monday night. However, Agnew hinted that there will be several changes to the squad due to the recent performances. He said to the Blackpool Gazette:
“We review every game, then we feed it back, we’ve done it all season, a lot of work goes into it, so we’ll do the same. You do need a little bit of time to clear your head, because emotionally after the game it’s damaging and it hurts.
“We’ll feed back and we’ll see what kind of reaction we get next Monday against Wigan.
“We’ve got more days to prepare, more time to look at tonight. When you get a performance like that, then there’s places up for grabs. I can’t think there’s many players that think they’ve come out of the game with much credit.”
Writer’s View
Blackpool have been on a bad run in recent weeks and with Steve Bruce missing due to personal reasons, it did not get any better last night with a poor performance against an inconsistent Peterborough United. They were outmatched and outclassed by Posh on the night and need to find something else when they face Wigan. The Latics have struggled over the past two matches and lost last time out against Mansfield Town. The game is there for the taking and Blackpool will hope they can capitalise on that.
