Former Fulham Coach Revealed As Coventry City Managerial Candidate

Former West Ham United and Arsenal player Luis Boa Morte has been revealed as an applicant for the Coventry City managerial vacancy.

Boa Morte, who won the Championship title as a player when it was still named the First Division with Fulham, was a coach at Craven Cottage under Marco Silva last season and is now the coach of African nation Guinea-Bissau.

Portuguese International One Of 80 Applicants

Plenty of candidates have put their names forward to fill the vacancy in the West Midlands after long-serving boss Mark Robins was removed from his post by Doug King. The Sky Blues owner is looking for someone to join as a head coach rather than a manager, working alongside a sporting director.

Former Derby County head coach and Premier League legend Frank Lampard is the highest-profile name under consideration and CoventryLive have revealed that Boa Morte is a potential rival to the former Chelsea midfielder.

Lampard has been without a job in football since his time as interim boss in May of 2023 at Stamford Bridge, months removed from his sacking at Everton.

King had previously revealed that his decision to sack Mark Robins last week was due to a behind-the-scenes rift between the pair, claiming the former Huddersfield Town man had dismantled the coaching staff.

Writer’s View

Whilst he may not be a usual suspect, Luis Boa Morte would be an interesting choice for Coventry City. He is an up-and-coming coach and worked with former Hull City boss Marco Silva, who is doing some brilliant things with Fulham. Lampard would be a better choice as he is somewhat familiar with the EFL with his time at Derby County. Ultimately Sky Blues should opt for someone with some good experience managing in the Championship and try and return to where they were in previous seasons.
