Harrogate Town has officially signed former Derby County forward Eno Nto on a month-to-month contract after a successful trial period.
Nto, who hails from Derby, brings his versatile attacking skills to the League Two side, where he’s expected to bolster their goal-scoring potential. The 22-year-old made an immediate impact by being named in the starting line-up for Tuesday evening’s EFL Trophy clash against Blackpool.
Promising Career Path for the Young Forward
Nto’s football journey began at his hometown club Derby County, where he rose through the academy ranks and contributed to their under-18s’ title-winning campaign in 2018-19. His development included appearances in the UEFA Youth League, where he showcased his potential on a larger stage. Seeking new experiences, Nto moved to the United States to play for Notre Dame’s Fighting Irish, scoring 11 goals in 22 matches before briefly returning to Derby County last season.
The forward, who can play both centrally and on the wings, left Derby last summer. Now, he joins Harrogate Town—nicknamed the Sulphurites—where he is anticipated to add both depth and scoring prowess to their frontline as they strive to climb up the League Two standings.
Manager Weaver’s High Hopes for Nto’s Impact
Harrogate manager Simon Weaver, who was impressed by Nto’s performance in training and trial matches, highlighted his qualities in a recent interview with BBC Radio York.
“I like the look of him, he’s professional, determined and has got better and better throughout his trial,” Weaver said. “He’ll get in behind, he’ll run at people, and from what I’ve seen of him in training, he’s a dedicated young lad who wants to have a go and so far looks the part. We need to find goalscorers and people who aren’t fearful in front of goal. We’re not scoring enough goals, it’s as simple as that.”
With Harrogate struggling to find consistent goalscorers, Weaver’s remarks signal that Nto’s attacking fearlessness is a sought-after addition to the squad. His pace, willingness to take on defenders, and eye for goal are qualities that could provide the “fear factor” Weaver believes the team has been missing.
Writer’s View
Eno Nto’s arrival could inject much-needed dynamism into Harrogate’s forward line. Having cut his teeth at Derby and demonstrated his potential in the U.S., he brings a diverse skill set that may help Harrogate convert more chances. If he can quickly adjust to League Two’s physical demands and maintain his dedication, Nto could become a valuable asset for Weaver as they look to add goals and climb the league table.
