Leyton Orient have made a surprise enquiry for winger Ryan Kent following his release by Turkish side Fenerbahce earlier this month.
The 27-year-old made his name north of the border at Scottish giants Rangers. After only 200 appearances for the Glaswegians, he opted to move to the continent following the expiration of his contract at Ibrox in 2023.
Kent arrived at Fenerbahce to much fanfare but soon fell out of favour at his new club. He made just eight league appearances in his debut season and speculation mounted during the summer that an early exit was on the cards. Former club Rangers were linked, as were Championship outfit Hull City, whilst a move to Serie A with Lazio broke down in the final moments of the transfer window.
The ex-Liverpool youngster saw his exit confirmed by Jose Mourinho’s side last week having not featured since July. Leeds United have been named as potential suitors, although there looks to be interest from League One.
Leyton Orient Make Move
According to The Scottish Sun, Leyton Orient have sounded out a potential move with the attacker as they look to improve their fortunes. The O’s currently find themselves just outside the relegation places in the third tier having won just three games all season.
Richie Wellens’ halted a run of five games without a win on Tuesday night with an impressive victory over Rotherham United, but were unable to build on that momentum when they made the short trip to Wycombe Wanderers yesterday. The early promotion contenders dominated to secure a 3-0 win at Adams Park.
It appears as if Orient are hoping to add to their ranks in the way of Kent, who would be unable to feature until January. The same report claims that there could be further interest from Saudi Arabia in the form of Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq.
Writer’s View
This is a really odd story. You can’t realy blame Leyton Orient for taking a punt but the chances of them landing a player of Ryan Kent’s ilk are somewhere around the slim to none mark. Remember, this is someone who came within a whisker of joining Lazio just a few months ago. Expect this rumour to disappear just as quickly as it’s appeared.
