Hull City have been touted with a possible loan move for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Tommy Watson in a new report.
Sergej Jakirovic’s side have had an eventful start to their season after the EFL placed a fee restriction on the East Yorkshire side for both loan moves and permanent transfers, and have to have their deals approved by the league before registration. Nevertheless, the Tigers have done some solid business, with Oli McBurnie playing a starring role in their opening matches this season.
Tigers Scout Watson
In a new report from Alan Nixon on his Patreon page, Hull have been named as one of three teams watching Tommy Watson of Brighton and Hove Albion as a return to the Championship for the winger. The 19-year-old joined the Seagulls this summer and has played just twice for Fabian Hurzeler’s outfit in the EFL Cup and got three assists in their demolition of Barnsley in the third round.
According to Nixon, scouts from the Tigers were at Oakwell to watch Watson, but have competition from league rivals in Derby County, as well as Preston North End with Paul Heckingbottom in attendance on the night. Watson, of course, is no stranger to the second division, having scored the decisive goal for Sunderland in the Play-off final against Sheffield United in May.
Watson has heaps of competition in Sussex for first-team positions out wide, with Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh being the preferred options in the Premier League, and Brajan Gruda being a regular substitute choice.

Barring the FA Cup or multiple injuries to key players, Tommy Watson is unlikely to get regular game time for Brighton this season, so a loan move might be a great option. Hull City does provide an interesting choice with how Oli McBurnie has performed so far this season, but is a very different forward to former teammates Wilson Isidor and Elizer Mayenda. Of course, any deal to bring Watson to East Yorkshire requires no loan fee, which may be a breaking point for their attempts to sign him.
